About Federal College of Education, Okene

The Federal College of Education, Okene was established in 1976 as one of the pioneering tertiary institutions in Kogi State. It started as the Federal Advanced Teachers College (FATC), Okene before it was upgraded to a Degree awarding institution and renamed the Federal College of Education, Okene.

History

The College was established to train middle level manpower for the Nigerian educational system. It started with the National Certificate in Education (NCE) programme with a student population of 253. Over the years, the College has experienced tremendous growth in terms of programme diversification, student enrollment and infrastructural development.

In 1985, the College commenced Degree programmes in Education and Vocational Teacher Education. The Degree programme started with a total student enrollment of 135. The College presently runs NCE, Degree and Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programmes in different specializations. It has also introduced some vocational programmes.

With a staff strength of over 1,500 and student population of over 15,000, the Federal College of Education, Okene has come a long way in expanding access to education and improving the quality of teachers in Nigeria. Hostel Accommodation
