Abdullahi Maikano College of Education, Wase was established as a College of Preliminary Studies to prepare students for degree programs at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
It was upgraded to a College of Education in 1982 to train graduate teachers for secondary schools. The college is located in Wase town, about 40 kilometers southeast of Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The College has five hostels which can accommodate over 2000 students, with separate hostels for male and female students. Room allocation in the hostels is done at the beginning of each academic session. Two to four students are allocated to a room depending on the capacity.
