Minimum Requirements for Admission

In order to be admitted, you must:

  • Have at least five credits in related subjects, such as English Language, Mathematics, one Science subject, and two other subjects. You can get these credits in one sitting or over two sittings, but not more than five credits in a row.
  • You have to be at least 16 years old to apply.
    Must have at least five years of education after elementary school.
  • For Direct Entry candidates, you must have at least one upper credit in the appropriate ND program.
  • Must get at least the minimum score on the UTME to get into the college. The cut-off mark changes every year based on how much competition there is.
  • Must have made their first choice when they signed up for JAMB.

Steps for Applying

If you want to get Admission you need to do the following:

  • You can either buy the college’s application form from the admissions office or get it from the website. Carefully read and fill out the form.
  • Attach printouts of your IDs, such as your birth certificate, WAEC or NECO results, proof of where you live, etc., to the form you’ve filled out
  • Before the due date, bring the completed admission form along with the necessary papers to the admissions office. Applications that are too late will not be looked at.
  • Check the website or notice board of the admissions office or the admissions list to see if you were given provisional admission.
  • You have until the due date to accept the offer of entry on the college’s website or in person at the admissions office. If you do not accept by the limit, you will lose your chance to be admitted.
  • When school starts up again, go to the college for screening and registration. Bring the original copies of the papers that are attached to your admission form so that they can be checked.

Hostel Accommodation


The Federal College of Education in Sokoto provides hostel accommodation for students on campus. Students are allocated furnished rooms shared between four to six people depending on availability. Basic amenities like beds, mattresses, reading tables and chairs are provided in each room. Students are expected to bring their own bedding, buckets, brooms and other personal items.


The hostels have common areas and facilities for students including bathrooms, laundry areas and cafeterias. The cafeterias provide affordable meals for students and are open from early morning until late evening. Laundry areas have washing machines and drying lines available for students to do their own laundry. Bathroom facilities provide showers, toilets and washbasins.


There are rules in place to facilitate community living in the hostels. These include:

  • No noise or loud music after 10pm to avoid disturbing others.
  • No cooking allowed in rooms. All cooking must be done in designated areas.
  • No alcohol or drugs permitted on hostel premises.
  • All guests must be signed in and out. No overnight guests allowed.
  • Students are responsible for keeping their rooms and common areas clean. Regular inspections are carried out by hostel wardens.

To ensure the safety, security and comfort of all students, the rules are strictly enforced by the hostel management and wardens. Disciplinary action is taken against students who violate the rules which may include fines, suspension from the hostels or in serious cases, expulsion from the college.

Living in the college hostels allows students to fully immerse themselves in student life and form lifelong friendships and networks. The hostels become a home away from home for many students during their time studying at the college.


What are the admission requirements?

To gain admission into Federal College of Education Sokoto, you must meet the minimum admission requirements set by the college. The requirements include:

  • Have a minimum of 5 credits in relevant subjects which include English Language and Mathematics at GCE O’Level or its equivalent.
  • Meet the cut-off mark set by the college for your course of choice. The cut-off mark varies yearly depending on the competitiveness of the courses.
  • Candidates are also required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and obtain the minimum UTME score for their chosen course.
  • Participate in the post-UTME screening exercise. Candidates who are successful in the screening exercise will be offered admission.

  • Direct Entry: ₦50,000 – ₦70,000 per session.
  • Part-time programmes: ₦35,000 – ₦50,000 per session.
