About The School
Yaba College of Technology, popularly known as YABATECH, is Nigeria’s first higher education institution. Established in 1947, it has evolved over the decades into a premier polytechnic university.
Initially founded as Yaba Technical Institute, it was renamed Yaba College of Technology in 1963. At the time, the goal was to train technicians and craftsmen to meet Nigeria’s needs after World War II. Over time, YABATECH expanded its programs to offer Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) and post-HND degrees in various fields of technology, engineering, science, and management.
The main campus is located in Yaba, a suburb of Lagos, while additional campuses are in Epe and Ikorodu. The college has modern facilities, including engineering workshops, science laboratories, and technical studios. It also has student hostels, cafeterias, health centers, and sports facilities.
Yaba College of Technology School Fees
Tuition at Yaba College of Technology is subsidized by the government for Nigerian students. However, students will need to pay certain fees like acceptance and medical fees. They will also need to pay for accommodation, learning materials, and living expenses. Total costs usually range from ₦150,000 to ₦350,000 per year depending on the program.
Yaba College of Technology Admission Requirements
To gain admission into Yaba College of Technology, you’ll need to meet certain requirements and follow the application process.
First, you must have the minimum entry qualifications, which are 5 credits in not more than two sittings in WAEC/NECO/NABTEB including English Language and Mathematics. For some courses, additional credits may be required in certain science subjects. The higher your scores the better, as admission is competitive.
- Apply online through the JAMB UTME website. You’ll need to pay an application fee and provide personal details, exam scores, and choices of courses and campuses.
- Sit for the JAMB UTME and obtain the minimum cut-off mark for your desired course. The cut-off scores vary each year based on several factors.
- If you meet the minimum cut-off mark, you’ll be invited for a screening exercise at the College which may involve an oral interview. Perform well at this stage to secure your admission.
- Meet all admission requirements stipulated by the academic board for your selected course, like age limits, health checks or additional tests. Some courses may have higher cut-off marks or lower admission quotas.
Yaba College of Technology Hostels Accommodation
Yaba College of Technology provides on-campus accommodation for students in the form of hostels. There are
currently 6 hostels: 3 for male students and 3 for female students. The hostels provide basic but comfortable
living quarters for students to stay during their course of study.
Adekunle Hostel
This is a male hostel named after the first principal of Yaba Tech, S.B. Adekunle. It houses over 700 students in single and double rooms. Each room comes furnished with a bed, desk, chair and wardrobe for each occupant. There are communal bathrooms and toilets on each floor as well as common rooms for recreation and study.
