About Aminu Kano College of Education

Aminu Kano College of Education was established in 1978 as a teacher training institution by the Kano State Government. It was named after the late Malam Aminu Kano, a prominent northern leader and educator. The college offers National Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programs in various disciplines.

Over the years, the college has grown tremendously in terms of student enrollment and number of programs offered. Student enrollment increased from about 200 students at inception to over 6,000 students currently. The college also started offering degree programs in affiliation with Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and University of Ibadan.

Minimum Requirements for Admission

In order to be admitted, you must:

  • Have at least five credits in related subjects, such as English Language, Mathematics, one Science subject, and two other subjects. You can get these credits in one sitting or over two sittings, but not more than five credits in a row.
  • You have to be at least 16 years old to apply.
    Must have at least five years of education after elementary school.
  • For Direct Entry candidates, you must have at least one upper credit in the appropriate ND program.
  • Must get at least the minimum score on the UTME to get into the college. The cut-off mark changes every year based on how much competition there is.
  • Must have made their first choice when they signed up for JAMB.

Steps for Applying

If you want to get Admission you need to do the following:

  • You can either buy the college’s application form from the admissions office or get it from the website. Carefully read and fill out the form.
  • Attach printouts of your IDs, such as your birth certificate, WAEC or NECO results, proof of where you live, etc., to the form you’ve filled out
  • Before the due date, bring the completed admission form along with the necessary papers to the admissions office. Applications that are too late will not be looked at.
  • Check the website or notice board of the admissions office or the admissions list to see if you were given provisional admission.
  • You have until the due date to accept the offer of entry on the college’s website or in person at the admissions office. If you do not accept by the limit, you will lose your chance to be admitted.
  • When school starts up again, go to the college for screening and registration. Bring the original copies of the papers that are attached to your admission form so that they can be checked.

Hostel Accommodation


The college provides modern hostel accommodation for students. Each room is furnished with beds, mattresses, reading tables, chairs, ceiling fans, tube lights and cupboards for each student.


The hostels have common rooms for indoor games and recreation. The common rooms have facilities such as television, carrom boards, table tennis, etc. The hostels also have their own dining halls, providing hygienic and nutritious food for students at reasonable rates.

Medical Care

Qualified nurses and visiting doctors provide medical care and treatment to students in the hostels. The college hospital is also available for emergency treatment. Sick students are provided special diet as advised by the doctors.


The hostels organize various cultural and sports activities and competitions for the students. Picnics and educational tours are arranged for students. These activities provide opportunities for students to develop interests and talents in sports, culture and community service.


Tight security is provided in the hostels with security guards patrolling the hostel premises round the clock. Entry into the hostels is strictly regulated. No unauthorized person is allowed into the hostels. The hostel authorities maintain strict discipline and vigil on the students for their safety and security.

When was Aminu Kano College of Education established?

Aminu Kano College of Education was established on 17th January, 1978. It was founded to help meet the need for qualified teachers for primary and junior secondary schools in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.

What courses are offered at Aminu Kano College of Education?

Aminu Kano College of Education offers both the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programmes. The NCE programme consists of courses in Education, Arts, Social Sciences, Languages, Science, Vocational and Technical Education. The PGDE programme focuses on courses in Education, Science Education, Language Education, Social Science Education and Technical/Business Education.

What is the admission requirement for NCE programme?

The minimum entry requirement for admission into the NCE programme is five credits in the Senior Secondary School Examinations (SSCE) conducted by WAEC, NECO or NABTEB in not more than two sittings. The credits must include English Language, Mathematics and any other three subjects as may be specified by the College.

How much are the school fees?

School fees vary depending on the programme of study. As an example, for the 2018/2019 academic session, the school fees for NCE and PGDE students were N41,350 and N51,650 per session respectively. In addition, students are required to pay for accommodation, medical care, Students’ Union due, and identity card. The total cost of attending Aminu Kano College of Education is quite affordable compared to other tertiary institutions.

When is the admission application deadline?

The deadline for submission of admission application forms is usually in August of every year.
