Nigerian Maritime University Admission Requirements

The university offers various degree programs related to the maritime industry and admission into the institution is based on meeting certain requirements. The following are the admission requirements for the Nigerian Maritime University:

  • National Examination Council (NECO) or West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level with a minimum of five (5) credits in relevant subjects including Mathematics and English Language.
  • Candidates must have scored a minimum of 180 in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
  • Candidates must have chosen the Nigerian Maritime University as their first choice institution during the JAMB registration.
  • Candidates must be at least 16 years old at the time of application.
  • Candidates must undergo and pass a post-UTME screening exercise conducted by the Nigerian Maritime University.
  • Candidates who seek admission into the Faculty of Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture & Marine Transport must have a minimum score of 200 in JAMB and must have sat for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language in the UTME.
  • International students seeking admission into the Nigerian Maritime University must have their academic credentials translated to English language, and must meet the requirements for admission into Nigerian universities.

Nigerian Maritime University Hostel Accommodation

The hostel facilities at NMU are designed to provide a conducive environment for students to study and learn.

The following are the hostel accommodation fees for the Nigerian Maritime University:

  • For newly admitted students, the hostel accommodation fee is ₦60,000 per session. This fee covers the cost of a bed space in a shared room.
  • For returning students, the hostel accommodation fee is ₦40,000 per session. This fee covers the cost of a bed space in a shared room.
  • Students who desire to live in a private room will be required to pay an additional fee of ₦20,000 per session.

The hostel accommodation fee does not cover the cost of utilities such as electricity and water, which will be billed separately.
