Back in 1973, the Borno State Government founded Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri to provide technical and vocational education to students in the northeast region of Nigeria.
Ramat Polytechnic started out with only 239 students but has since expanded to over 7,000 students across several schools and departments. New facilities and infrastructure have also been added, like student hostels, laboratories, workshops, and an administrative block.

Ramat Polytechnic School Fees
Attending Ramat Polytechnic is very affordable, especially considering the high quality of education and resources provided. Fees are charged per semester and cover all costs, including tuition, books, housing, and meals.
Ramat Polytechnic aims to make higher education accessible to students from all backgrounds. Tuition fees for Nigerian students are around ₦45,000 per semester. International students from other West African countries pay only slightly higher fees of around ₦65,000 per semester.
Ramat Polytechnic Admission Requirements
To gain admission into any of the diploma or degree programs offered at Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, you’ll need to meet certain requirements.
Entry Qualifications
To be considered for admission, you need the following:
- A minimum of 5 credits in not more than 2 sittings in SSCE/NECO/GCE or its equivalent with credits in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry and any other relevant subjects depending on your course of choice.
- For ND/HND programs, a minimum of 5 credits in SSCE/NECO/GCE or its equivalent at not more than two sittings. Credit passes in Mathematics, English Language and any three relevant subjects.
- For postgraduate studies, a minimum of lower credit in a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field of study.
- Completed application forms can be obtained and submitted online through the Polytechnic’s website.
Entrance Exam
- Applicants may be required to sit for a general entrance exam for some courses. Scores in the entrance exam are combined with the O’level results to determine admission.
Additional Requirements
Most of the departments have their own special requirements such as:
