About Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education

Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) was established in October, 1979 to help meet the need for qualified teachers in Lagos State. The college is located in Otto-Ijanikin, a suburb of Lagos State.

AOCOED began operations on January 15, 1980 with 239 students and 10 academic staff. The pioneer Provost of the college was Chief E.A. Adebanjo. The college started with programs in Science, Arts and Social Sciences. Home Economics and Agricultural Science were introduced in 1981/82 and 1982/83 academic sessions respectively.

Over the years, AOCOED has grown tremendously in all ramifications. New schools and departments have been established. There are currently over 15,000 students and 800 members of staff in the college. AOCOED is reputed for excellence in teacher education and has produced many distinguished teachers.

AOCOED aims at producing teachers with skills and competencies required for effective teaching and learning in schools. The college offers Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programs. Students go through rigorous training to prepare them for the teaching profession. Minimum Requirements for Admission

In order to be admitted, you must:

  • Have at least five credits in related subjects, such as English Language, Mathematics, one Science subject, and two other subjects. You can get these credits in one sitting or over two sittings, but not more than five credits in a row.
  • You have to be at least 16 years old to apply.
    Must have at least five years of education after elementary school.
  • For Direct Entry candidates, you must have at least one upper credit in the appropriate ND program.
  • Must get at least the minimum score on the UTME to get into the college. The cut-off mark changes every year based on how much competition there is.
  • Must have made their first choice when they signed up for JAMB.

Hostel Accommodation

Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education provides accommodation for students in the form of hostels located within the school premises. There are separate hostels for male and female students, with each hostel comprising several blocks of rooms.


Each room in the hostels can accommodate up to four students and comes equipped with beds, mattresses, wardrobes, tables, and chairs for each occupant.
