About The School

The Ondo State Government founded the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED) in Ondo City, Nigeria, in 2015. The National Universities Commission has granted accreditation to the University of Nigeria College of Medicine, making it only the third medical university of its kind in Africa.

Professor Friday Okonofua, a Nigerian professor of gynecology and the founder of Women Health and Action Research Centre, a non-profit and charitable organization based in Benin City that promotes female reproductive research, was the university’s first substantive vice chancellor.

The bill creating the state university of medical sciences was signed into law in 2014 by Olusegun Mimiko, the executive governor of Ondo State. The bill was introduced in the Assembly of Ondo State under Schedule 1, Section 5(2) and Article 39(1) of the laws of Ondo State.

On March 11, 2015, when the university received clearance from the National University Commission, NUC, Professor Friday Okonofua was appointed as the university’s first substantive Chancellor.Professor Adesegun serves as the university’s current vice chancellor.

Admission Requirement For University Of Medical Sciences

The admission process into the university is competitive and based on merit. Here are the general admission requirements for the University of Abuja:

Undergraduate Admissions:

  • Five (5) or more Ordinary Level Credits on the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE/GCE) in no more than one (1) attempt.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (with honors) in a relevant discipline.
  • Candidates applying for direct entry must acquire the UNIMED Direct Entry form through the JAMB And UNIMED Portal.
  • A minimum of a Merit Pass on all Advanced Level Certificates, including the NCE, ND, and any others.
  • Other qualities equal to (1) and (4) above, as determined by the University Senate. Candidates must meet these Faculty/Department entry requirements in addition to the aforementioned minimum admission requirements.
  • Candidates must have earned a minimum of 5 credits at the O level (WAEC/NABTEB or NECO), with no more than 2 of those credits coming from the same subject area, in no more than 1 sitting.
  • By October 31 of the admissions year, you must have turned sixteen (16).
  • Medical and Surgical Termination Point According to UNIMED.
  • Pick the Right JAMB Subjects.
  • Take the JAMB, WAEC, and Post UTME and do well.

Postgraduate

  • A graduate of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Ondo or another accredited university recognized by the UNIMED Senate who has earned at least a Second Class (Lower Division) in the relevant discipline is required to apply for admission to the M.Sc. degree program.
  • Candidates with a Third Class Bachelor’s degree or an HND (Upper Credit) who also hold a Postgraduate diploma (PGD) in a related field with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale may be taken into consideration.
  • Candidates who are not UNIMED graduates might need to pass both an interview and an exam to meet the department’s prerequisites for admission.

University Of Medical Sciences Hostel Accommodation

The student housing of Ondo State University of Medical Sciences is suitable for students. Even though the cost of staying at UNIMED hostels varies.

You will need to select whether you want to use the school hostel or rent a place apart from the UNIMED campus once I list the hostel fees below.
